About

Maison Taureau: House of the Bull.

THE CONCEPT

The painting that started it all, originally titled “Torres”, came to life one spring night in northern France. This piece marked a breakthrough in the artist’s career and catalyzed the beginning of a new pursuit, the Maison Taureau—roughly translating from French as the House of the Bull. The broad spectrum of the artist’s interests and experimental creations were ultimately what led to her decision of establishing a brand that encompasses a variety of creative avenues. The primary styles that collectors will find include impressionism, expressionism, and realism, often concentrating in mediums such as oil paintings and charcoal or graphite drawings. Other common mediums include acrylics, watercolors, and ink.

The artist presents a variety of works to collectors, including original concepts, plein air pieces, and the occasional still life. Original works tend to possess overtones that explore emotion and the human psyche, inviting the viewer to interpret them through their own subconscious associations. Animalistic symbolism is frequently used to break down intellectualized concepts of emotions and to allow the audience to organically experience their raw sensations. Still-life pieces are practiced in studies of both external and internal stimuli—shapes and light created through a method of mindfulness and reflection. Collectors will notice a frequent use of red tones, whether dominant or subtle, emphasizing the intensity with which we identify our own inner dynamics. Plein air work largely depicts scenes from the artist’s hometown of Auburn, Alabama, each one allowing the artist to discover genuine connection and conversation with countless members of the community throughout the process of painting. Other métiers of the Maison Taureau include live painting for events such as weddings, hand-painted wine and perfume bottles, and private commissions.

THE ARTIST

Arden Torres is an American oil painter with various creative affinities. She began painting from an early age, achieving her first museum exhibition at age fifteen. Although Torres is a painter above all else, she spent years developing a love for many modalities of expressing beauty. These included drawing, writing, playing the piano, embroidery, sewing, photography, and multiple genres of design. From that first exhibition into her adult life, Torres’s work has been displayed and awarded across the country from Atlanta to Chicago. Most notably, Torres has attended a highly competitive residency in France, contributing work to the permanent collection of the Galerie Diderot at the Chateau d’Orquevaux. Other accomplishments include magazine publications and interviews, live-painting for events around the southeast United States, and receiving offers for other residencies around the world including locations such as Boston and Ireland. Torres looks forward to attending her next residency at the Westcove Estate in Kerry, Ireland in 2026.

While ceaselessly practicing her own craft and looking to the future of her work, she has developed a strong passion for sharing the love of art with her community. Torres loves connecting with others who share creative interests or practices and encourages people to reach out to her as they are so inclined.

The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.
